1994-1998 Dodge Cummins 12 valve engines use a mechanical fuel injection system. The diesel fuel injectors deliver a fine mist of fuel into the cylinder that is ignited by the compressed, hot cylinder air. Over time the tiny nozzle holes erode, and the fuel enters the cylinder as a stream instead of a mist. It is more difficult to burn the coarse fuel, much like starting a camp file with logs instead of small twigs. Signs of worn injectors are larger amounts of smoke at start up, decreased fuel mileage, and decreased performance.
When choosing replacement injectors for your Dodge Cummins diesel, it is critical to choose quality parts and professional service over price. Huckstorf Diesel is a Bosch authorized rebuilding center. We completely disassemble every injector we rebuild. Every injector gets a new nozzle and we only use new genuine Bosch nozzle tips. The nozzle to injector body seal is a perfectly flat surface. That surface is checked and corrected if necessary. The bodies are all cleaned and checked for contamination. There is a spring and shims that determine the opening pressure of the injector nozzle. It is not good enough to simply reuse the same shim and spring over again. Every injector needs to be pressure tested to find the exact opening pressure. Then adjust the shim thickness to achieve the correct pressure. This is an important step because a balanced set of injectors really make a difference in the operation of your engine. Huckstorf Diesel prides itself of balancing each set of injectors to a tighter tolerance than the factory specifications! Choose wisely, choose Huckstorf Diesel.
