Description
2010-2016 GM 6.6L LGH LML Duramax Diesel CP4 Injection Pump
Bosh part number 0986437421 high pressure CP4 diesel injection pump for 2010-2016 GM 6.6L LGH LML Duramax diesel engines.
This is a genuine Bosch remanufactured CP4 common rail diesel injection pump for 2010 – 2016 GM LGH & LML Duramax diesel engines.Ā Bosch is the original manufacture and have available all the parts used in these pumps when they were originally made new, so you can be assured all the parts used are the highest quality.Ā Bosch also has the equipment needed to properly calibrate and verify that this pump is working to the exact specifications required and meet strict emission and performance requirements.Ā This pump has a new fuel pressure regulator and all the wear items are replaced.Ā These are the highest quality pumps on the market.Ā Do not settle for inferior products using sub-standard parts and unapproved testing equipment.Ā This pump fits 2010 – 2016 GM LGH & LML Duramax 6.6L V8 diesel engines found in Chevrolet 2500 & 3500 Silverado trucks, 2500 & 3500 Chevrolet Express vans, GMC Sierra 2500 & 3500 trucks, and GMC 2500 & 3500 Savana vans.Ā Bosch part number 0986437421.
Core Charges
This part requires an acceptable matching rebuildable core be sent in to avoid paying the core charges.Ā Worn out advance piston housings that can not be machined to accept available larger piston sizes will result in a reduction of the core charge refund.
With Core OptionĀ = Means you will pay the core charge up front, and when an acceptable core is returned to Huckstorf Diesel the core charge will be refunded back to you.Ā An acceptable matching core must be received within 30 days of the ship date to receive full core credit.
Without Core OptionĀ = An acceptable matching core must be received before the exchange is sent out.
An acceptable core is one that is rebuildable with typical replacement parts.Ā Major damage such as rust, housing damage, critical broken parts will be cause for partial or no core refund.Ā If you have any questions on this policy please call or send your pump in first for inspection.Ā Normally a pump that comes off a running engine in need of typical repairs is fine.Ā Pumps that sat for years in junk yards, fire damaged, collision damaged, etc. may not be accepted.
Why do CP4 Pumps go bad and have such a bad reputation?
CP4 high-pressure diesel fuel injection pumps are used in many modern diesel engines including Chevrolet Duramax, Ford Power Stroke, and Ram Cummins.Ā The failure rate is not as bad as what you think and read about here on the internet, but it is real.Ā Failure is primarily due to a combination of factors, including low fuel lubricity, air in the pump, fuel contamination, and internal wear.Ā Metal shavings from internal pump parts are created and enter the high pressure fuel system, damaging injectors and other fuel system components.Ā Once the metal shavings start it is a snowball effect that escalates rapidly.
- Low Fuel Lubricity:
The CP4 pump relies on the diesel fuel to lubricate its internal components. When fuel lacks sufficient lubricity (due to factors like low-quality fuel or improper fuel additives), this lubrication is inadequate, leading to accelerated wear and tear. - Fuel Contamination:
Contamination from dirt, water, or other debris can damage the pump’s delicate internal components, leading to premature failure. - Air in the Pump:
Air trapped in the fuel system can cause the pump to operate in a condition where metal-on-metal contact occurs, further exacerbating wear and potentially leading to catastrophic failure. - Internal Wear:
Even with good fuel and proper maintenance, the CP4 pump, like any mechanical component, can wear out over time, particularly under demanding operating conditions.Ā Normal life for a pump with clean fuel is 100,000 to 150,000 miles. - Metal Shavings:
When the CP4 pump begins to fail, it produces metal shavings, which in turn make more metal shavings that will contaminate the entire fuel system, including the injectors, fuel lines, and fuel rails.
Preventing CP4 Failure:
Several measures can be taken to minimize the risk of CP4 pump failure:
- Use High-Quality Fuel:
Always use reputable fuel brands with adequate lubricity, plus use a fuel additive like the Stanadyne Performance Formula to insure adequate lubricity every time you fill up. - Maintain the Fuel System:
Regularly check and replace fuel filters, drain the water separator, and consider using fuel additives to improve lubricity and clean the fuel system. - Avoid Running Out of Fuel:
Running the fuel tank low can create air in the system, leading to accelerated wear. - Consider Aftermarket Solutions:
Some owners choose to install aftermarket lift pumps like FASS Fuel Systems or secondary filtration kits to enhance fuel delivery and protect against debris.Ā Also we offer CP3 Pump Conversion Kits which allow the use of the more reliable CP3 style injection pumps.
