Huckstorf Diesel part number 65FSD-C is a pump-mounted driver PMD cooler for 1994-2002 Chevrolet and GMC 6.5L turbo diesel engines with the electronic DS model diesel fuel injection pump.
This GM 6.5L Pump Mounted Driver cooler makes changing or relocating a faulty PMD quick and easy. Our cooler is designed for maximum surface area to promote fast cooling and extend the life of a PMD. The greater the surface area, the better the cooling effect. Like the radiator on your engine, air flows across the fins and pulls heat away as it passes. The more area that air touches, the more heat is dissipated. Originally, this cooler was designed to relocate the PMD off of the injection pump located in the hot engine valley, and onto the top of the intake manifold. When located on top of the engine, the cooler is placed into airflow from the radiator fan. When located on the intake manifold, this cooler absorbs the heat produced by the PMD and dissipates the heat much better compared to the PMD being mounted on the injection pump. In hotter climates where the under hood temperatures are high, placing the cooler in front of the radiator behind the open grill provides maximum cooling by allowing the lower outside air temperatures to flow through the grill and onto the cooler while driving. Other coolers on the market are a flat piece of metal and don’t have enough surface area to disperse heat and cool like this cooler does. It is not recommended to mount the cooler in a tight space where there is no air movement. This cooler comes with a one-year warranty for defects in material or workmanship. The PMD, resistor, and extension harnesses are sold separately.
The PMD & 6.5L diesel injection pump history, and why you and every 6.5 diesel needs a cooler!
The PMD (pump mounted driver) or also known as a FSD (fuel system driver), has been a major problem for Chevy / GMC 6.5L diesel owners since its introduction of the 1994 6.5L electronically controlled DS4 fuel injection pump. The PMD is a solenoid pack that builds up heat and uses the injection pump and the fuel running through it to absorb that heat. The injection pump is in the valley of the diesel engine between the cylinder heads and the heat produced by the engine is also absorbed into the diesel fuel injection pump. In some situations, the fuel going through the pump cannot adequately remove the heat to keep the PMD functional. Once the engine begins showing symptoms of stalling and hesitating, most likely the PMD is failing, and the problems will only get worse.
Tests show that when using this PMD Cooler, PMD temperatures will drop anywhere from 32° to 81° Fahrenheit depending on driving conditions. These temperature drops will seriously increase the life of the PMD and can save you money from towing and costly repairs. The PMD Cooler easily mounts to the intake manifold of your engine within reach of the wiring harness plug for the PMD. Installation is quick, simple and does not require any modifications or special tools. Purchase a new PMD and instead of installing it back onto the pump where the heat is, use a PMD Cooler and relocate the PMD out of that heat zone. The savings in the labor time it takes to mount a new PMD onto the injection pump will more than pay for the cost of the PMD Cooler, plus the PMD will last much longer! The PMD Cooler kit comes with everything needed to mount a PMD to the intake manifold. Don’t pay for a pump replacement when the PMD may be all you need!
Flight Systems part number 904-104XD is a pump-mounted driver (PMD) used on Stanadyne electronic DS model diesel fuel injection pumps in 1994-2002 Chevrolet and GMC trucks with a 6.5L turbo diesel engine.
Huckstorf Diesel is going straight to the source to give you the customer the best possible deal, with warranty, on a new 6.5 PMD. Flight Systems Electronics Group manufactures this Pump Mounted Driver (PMD) in the United States of America! Also known as Fuel Solenoid Drivers (FSD). This is the most up-to-date version that can handle the high temperature environment causing problems with older drivers. FSEG has earned outstanding supplier awards from NASA, automotive manufacturers, and original equipment manufacturers. Exacting standards have been a hallmark of FSEG for more than 30 years. What they created was an outstanding product that holds up great! These PMD modules are a direct bolt in replacement for the original made by Stanadyne which are no longer being produced. Flight Systems manufactures diesel components for Chevy/GM, Dodge, Ford and International trucks used worldwide. This current version fixed the problems of the past and is very reliable.
Huckstorf Diesel offers the Flight Systems PMD one-year unlimited mile warranty. This warranty covers only the part.
Flight Systems part number 508900-9 is a fuel calibration resistor located in the PMD wire connector cavity of Stanadyne electronic DS model injection pumps that were used on 1994-2002 Chevrolet and GMC trucks with the 6.5L turbo diesel engine.
The injection pump fuel delivery is fine-tuned with a resistor in the PMD. The resistors range in number from one to nine. This number nine resistor will deliver the highest fuel delivery. If no resistor is used, the pump will default to the number five. We recommend using the number nine resistor to give you that little extra performance. A check engine light may come on if no resistor is used.
Note: Stanadyne changed the connector between the wiring harness and the PMD when they updated their PMD to the gray-color version. Use this resistor with the black style Stanadyne or Flight Systems black colored PMD’s.
This resistor can be used with the gray Stanadyne PMD if you snip off the pointy ends and make the short ends flat. Install with the number showing.

Huckstorf Diesel part number 105078 is a 72-inch extension harness that allows a black pump-mounted driver PMD to be relocated away from the injection pump and the hot engine compartment on 1994-2002 Chevrolet and GMC trucks with the 6.5L diesel engine.
This made-in-America black PMD harness extends the factory wiring harness between the GM 6.5L diesel injection pump and a remote-mounted PMD (pump-mounted driver) 72 inches. This harness uses the original style ends found on black colored PMD’s. This harness can also be used with the gray style Stanadyne PMD with slight trimming on the PMD plug end. This is the correct harness if you want to relocate the PMD onto a cooler in front of the radiator or somewhere in the engine bay with room to spare.
- 40 inch version for placement under the hood are listed below.
- 8 inch version is listed below for easy mounting to the engine intake manifold.
