Our top level technicians are paid on a flat rate based pay system where we use All Data labor guide as just that, a guide. The technician has one hour to start diagnostics and formulate a repair plan with the service manager for what parts and labor are needed before contacting the customer. Sometimes more time is needed to pinpoint the problem, and other times the repair is clear. Our system insures the technician is in agreement for the labor time before the job is sold. Once the customer gives approval the parts are ordered by the service manager and the technician begins work. If there is a situation where the labor time needs to be increased, the technician and the service manager makes a new estimate for the customer to approve. Once approval is received work continues. This system is much different than a dealership system where the labor guide is the bible and set in stone. A talented technician with ambition can book many hours and prosper without the fear of feeling cheated.
